What is your Big Idea for Philadelphia?
"Right-Sizing Parking in Philadelphia"
There's way too much parking. For starters, I've measured some neighborhoods in center city being over 15% surface parking lots. That doesn't include garages, street parking, or the roads themselves, just parking lots. Community members say there isn't enough parking, and that's why businesses are struggling. They have the wrong idea completely: we have way too much. The neighborhoods that are known by everyone to be pleasant places to spend time and live (Logan Square, Rittenhouse, Old City) have the least surface parking lots. To bring business, customers, and residents to the city, we need to look at the data and ask ourselves: do we need more cars in center city? Or less?
